Chase Gouin: Part One of Two

Edited for Odyssey. Filmed by Dave Todon. Music: Leave me Alone by New Order.

Prior to working at Odyssey, my knowledge of Chase only extended as far as published interviews and articles would allow. From those, I found him to be a fascinating individual, with an intense passion for riding which burns hotter than the hardest trick or combo that Flatland will ever fathom. A series of exchanged e-mails with him only magnified that perception.

When he wrote to inform me a DVD full of clips was on its way to Odyssey, anxiousness consumed me. Being a huge fan, I wanted to create a video edit filled with heart and is as conscientious as the effort he put into his riding. For many riders, BMX is a very personal extension of oneself and Chase is absolutely no exception. I wanted this video to reflect not only his abilities, but his current thoughts and feelings towards our 20″ chariots as well. I showed him the draft and he caught onto the narrative behind the vignette and sepia treatment right away. I was absolutely thrilled by his approval and the video went public a couple days later.

With this part serving as an introduction to these new combos, Part Two was then given a more straight-forward treatment, with focus intended to be purely on the riding.
