I just bought a new camera and the first photo I’m really psyched on is a blur. I suppose it’s fitting considering that’s kind of how my life has been lately (and I mean that in a good way). Currently, I’m in a hotel room in Dallas, Texas for the first night of this year’s Megatour. I’m surprised I’m still awake considering I didn’t get to bed till 4am last night. I did take a nap though, so I guess that helps explain it. Recently, I spent a couple weeks in California living out of a Suburban fitted with a legit bed. It’s made me question if I really need a house. The ‘burban has just about everything I need. As long as I have a place to shower every few days, I’ve found the living situation surprisingly comfortable and liberating. I’m excited for the drive back home though, mainly because I’ll be driving up and ‘camping’ along the coast again. Maybe all the way to Seattle this time to visit my brother.

I’ve decided I don’t like going to bed, but I do enjoy taking naps. Hmm…

It was 3 months before my 24th birthday when I decided I wanted to have the ability to live out of a car and just roam around for months at a time. I was in a movie theater and sipping out of an inconspicuous cup, while watching the Simpsons movie, when the idea transpired. I proclaimed it like I had been mulling it over for months. I puked the words out the very instance they entered my mind and by the time I had closed my mouth, it was decided that I should do it in 3 years when I’m 27 (3x3x3). Looking back, it was a rather peculiar goal… I was basically aspiring to become homeless. At the time of the idea’s conception, the only plan I had to make it happen was to quit my job and sell my house on my 27th birthday. The idea consumed me for about a year before it eventually went away when I started working at Odyssey.

Fast-forward to 3 months after I turned 27 and random, unexpected life events has led me to that very goal w/out really planning for it. The best part is, I didn’t have to quit my job or sell my house. Things just kinda worked out and I now have a comfortable bed in the back of an SUV. With my bike, camera and laptop, I’m currently living in my modern day equivalent of Thoreau’s woods. I had once considered actually living in the woods but then I realized I’ve only gone camping once in my entire life and probably wouldn’t have a clue what to do when I discover I can’t get internet.
